County training and camps
Members came together at Waddow Hall for a county training weekend – and had a good time together while learning
For Katherine Knowles, Guiding Development Lead for Cumbria South, organising her fourth county training weekend at Waddow Hall felt like coming home.
‘All the staff at Waddow go above and beyond to ensure our members’ needs are met,’ says Katherine. ‘They’re extremely helpful with the whole booking process, liaising with trainers, managing dietary requirements and ensuring our county weekend is tailored specifically to meet our needs. They’re also on hand throughout the weekend and nothing is too much trouble.’
The 55 participants ranged from leaders in training to those with more than 30 years’ experience. ‘Having access to first-class training benefits everyone,’ says Katherine.
Event planning made easy – 2017 County Camp
Just as important was the opportunity for fun and friendship. As one participant says, ‘Where else could you spend a weekend laughing, learning and building friendships and networks with a bunch of deliciously mischievous and like-minded ladies?’
The weekend also gave leaders a chance to find out what Waddow Hall can offer their girls. In fact, Cumbria South ran its own successful camp there in 2017, where girls tried everything from grass sledging to fake keyhole surgery.
‘One Guide used a wheelchair and Waddow made sure she was fully included in all activities,’ says former County Commissioner Sue Gudgeon. And the girl’s verdict? ‘I liked everything and enjoyed every moment,’ says Liana.
Blackland Farm, Foxlease and Waddow Hall can all host weekends and camps, with their friendly teams giving lots of support to make your planning as hassle-free as possible. To contact the centres, email activitycentres@girlguiding.org.uk or find out more at girlguidingactivitycentres.org.uk
