BROWNIES
Daisy's disappearing friends
What you’ll need
- A timer
- Blankets, bedsheets or a separate room
- Blindfold (optional)
Aim of the activity
Do you know the name of all your Brownie friends? It’s time to test that out…
Note to leader: Pick a leader to play the role of the magician in this activity. You can decide how many Brownies you want to hide each round, start with one Brownie, and make it harder by adding extra hidden Brownies.
Step by step
What to do
My friend Daisy is an amazing magician and she’s been teaching me all her tricks! I’ve been practising lots and lots. Do you want to help me? Today I’m working on my trick of making people disappear.
1
But to make sure that this trick works, we need to make sure we know each other’s names. Stand in a line and as quickly as possible go down the line calling out your name. Do it three times getting faster each time.
2
Pick two Brownies to be the audience and ask them to stand at the other end of your space facing you.
3
Everyone else, you’re my magician’s assistants. Find a space in the room and strike any pose you want!
3
Audience, you’ve got 30 seconds to try and remember who is standing where in the space. Ready? Time starts now!
4
Time’s up, audience face the wall or put on a blindfold. No peeking – a magician never reveals their secrets.
5
If you get tapped on the shoulder, go into the other room really quietly, don’t let the audience see you.
Top tip
Don’t have a spare space? Cover the chosen Brownies in blankets or bedsheets. Want to make it harder? Get them to move before you cover them.
6
Abracadabra, who’s disappeared! Audience, you’ve got 60 seconds to figure out which Brownies I’ve made disappear. Tick, tock!
7
Time’s up? Can you guess who it was? Shout out their names. Can you make them reappear? If you get it right, they’ll jump out from their hiding space.
Top tip
Stuck? Ask another Brownie to give you a clue.
8
Daisy says the more times you practise magic, the better you get. Let’s try that a few more times with a new audience.
Try it this way
Easy-peasy? Try making it more difficult. As well as hiding Brownies have some Brownies change what pose they are doing. Can the audience guess all the changes?
