Our sections
Sections are what we call the different age groups in Girlguiding. Each section has its own activities and opportunities, so girls can get the most out of guiding.
For girls aged 4-7
Rainbows welcomes all girls from 4 to 7 years old for play, learning and tons of fun in a colourful, safe space.
For girls aged 7-10
Brownies is a space full of firsts, where all girls from 7 to 10 years old can enjoy nonstop fun, learning and adventure.
For girls aged 10-14
Guides is a relaxed, welcoming space. Here, your child can explore the things they love, take on new adventures, and just be herself.
For girls aged 14-18
Rangers is a space for girls to expand their horizons and speak out on things they care about. And have plenty of fun along the way.
Moving up a section
If your child is due to move up a section, their current unit leader will contact you. If you don't hear from their leader, feel free to contact them directly.
- Rainbows move up to Brownies aged 7.
- Brownies move up to Guides aged 10.
- Guides move up to Rangers aged 14.
Moving section doesn’t happen automatically, so you’ll need to decide which unit your child would like to go to next and which suits your schedule best.
You won’t need to re-register your child on the website to move section because they're already a member. Read more information on moving up sections.
