88% of girls believe we need to protect our planet urgently
Girlguiding and Knorr® are working together to encourage girls to try new flavours, consider meat-free alternatives to their favourite dishes and enjoy healthier, more mouth-watering meals.
Together we want to challenge and empower girls, volunteers, and parents to eat seasonally and sustainably, to improve not just our own health, but the planet too.
From our own research, we know that 87% of girls feel there should be more opportunities in their daily lives to help the environment, with 88% saying it’s urgent that we protect our planet.
More and more girls and young people are considering vegetarianism and veganism. In 2019, 67% of girls told us that they either already eat less meat, or would be prepared to in the future. Helping the environment and animals, and feeling healthier were at the top of the list of their reasons why.
Cheating on meat
We know making vegetable swaps fun and creative can be challenging sometimes. According to Knorr®’s research, 75% of the population only eat 12 out of 5000 edible vegetables!
Through their work with us, Knorr® want to inspire Girlguiding members to become ‘Cheat on Meat Champions’, supporting their mission to get the UK eating more mouth-watering veggie-based meals.
We think it’s never too early to start learning about the food we’re eating, and that’s why Knorr® is sponsoring the Fruit and veg interest badge for Rainbows. We are excited to share their practical tips to get all our members trying new flavours and even feel inspired to grow their own fruit and vegetables at home.
There are plenty of ways in which you can get involved at home too. That’s why Knorr® are bringing you plenty of useful tips and recipe ideas which we will be sharing exclusively here in guiding magazine.
For more information on how Knorr® can help you reduce your meat consumption, visit their website and check out their Cheat on Meat Calculator to find out how even going meat free once a week can have a huge impact on the planet.
