What you’ll need

What to do
1
Pick someone to be the dinosaur. This could be your leader to start with.
2
Everyone else, get into at least 4 teams and find a spot around the edge of your space to stand in.
3
Dinosaur, stand in the middle of your space. Your leader’s going to scatter dinosaur eggs around the dinosaur.
Top tip
Got a wandering dinosaur that struggles to stay still? Give them a chair to sit on or mark out a spot for them to stand on.
4
Listen carefully, your leader will read out the rules for how to play snore or roar. You could have a practice go first to make sure everyone understands!
5
Now you know the rules, the dinosaur should pop a blindfold on or cover their eyes, get your leader to spin them around. Ready, steady, shhhhhhh!
How to play snore or roar
Shhhhh... the dinosaur is sleeping surrounded by precious dinosaur eggs! Teams, your job is to collect as many eggs as you can, without waking the dinosaur.
• Before the game starts, teams get 1 minute to think of the best way to creep towards the dinosaur. Work together to come up with a sneaky egg collecting technique! Check out the communication and teamwork top tips for some ideas.
• Only 1 player from each team can be moving at a time. They must collect an egg and take it back to the team spot. If you’re not moving, what can you do to stay as still and quiet as possible?
• Dinosaur, you’re in dreamland! When you think you can hear a player coming towards you, let out a roar! Quickly, point towards where you heard a noise, no peeking! Your leader will let you know if you’re pointing at someone. When the dinosaur roars, everyone freeze! If the dinosaur is pointing in your direction, go back to your team and if you’re holding an egg, drop it where you are.
• The dinosaur will fall back asleep, and as soon as your team member is back – with or without an egg, someone else in your team can go.
• Keep going and see how many eggs you can collect in 3 minutes, the team with the most eggs wins! After 3 minutes, it’s time to swap dinosaurs.
Top tip
Snore or roar is all fun and games but never sneak up on a sleeping animal and never touch an animal’s eggs or babies. If the animal is a pet, ask permission from the owner before getting close or touching it.
Try it this way
Up the challenge and use some noisy items as eggs too! It’ll be trickier to stay quiet.
Communication and teamwork top tips
• Players, you need to move quietly and carefully. How can you silently work as a team and help guide other team members to the eggs? • Could you think of any movements that make less noise? What about tiptoeing or crawling? • If someone in your team can’t creep, they could be the egg counter. • Think about which eggs to go for first. • How will you communicate with one another without making a sound? • If someone gets caught, how can you quietly let them know that it’s okay? • How about celebrating when someone comes back with an egg? Try and do a silent high 5! • Concentration is important. Dinosaur, you need to listen for the slightest sound...be alert and ready to roar!
