We visit Equality FC

Our 2016 Girls’ Attitudes Survey found that one in three girls aged 11-16 say they do not have the same choices as boys in school sport, while 65% of all girls and young women said they wanted to see more women’s sport on TV.

To find out more about inequality in sport, and how girls and young women feel about it, we took Brownies and Guides from four local units to the Dripping Pan, home of Lewes FC in Sussex. Known as ‘Equality FC’, Lewes was the first football club in the country – and possibly even the world – to pay its women players the same as the men and offer them the same coaching and playing opportunities.

The girls took part in a training session with some of the professional players, and heard from General Manager Maggie Murphy and star player Katie Rood about how Lewes FC is leading the way on and off the pitch.
